Glennie is a community at the junction of Bamfield/Glennie Road and M-65. A depot on the Detroit and Mackinac Railway as "Glennie Station" and a post office of the same name was established on October 5 1889, with Ella Deacon as the postmaster. The name was shortened to "Glennie" on October 2, 1894. A plat for the settlement was not officially recorded until 1940. Glennie is located in the Heart of the Huron National Forest. It is proud of the excellent fishing opportunities on the 1200-acres Alcona Pond, and other inland lakes surrounding town, Camping is available at Alcona Park, Alcona Canoe Rental and Campground, Horsehoe Lake National Forest Campground, Pine River National Forest Campground, Gabions National Forest Campground. Hiking and Cross-country Skiing in the Reid Lake and Hoist Lake Foot Travel area located a few miles north of town. A trip down the scenic AuSalble River by canoe, kayak, tube or raft provides refreshment on those hot summer days. Snowmobile trails have direct access to town to those seeking food and fuel. The beautiful Eagle Ridge Golf Course is location on the south edge of town.
