Alcona County is located on the western shore of Lake Huron. The county has 694 square miles of lush forests, sparkling lakes and steams, and 27 miles of Lake Huron shoreline. It offers four season of outdoor recreational opportunities, including boating, camping, fishing, golfing, hiking, hunting, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. The county is home six beautiful golf courses. It is an anglers paradise with over 60 inland lake and numerous streams. Charterboat Services operating out of the harbors at Harrisville and Black River offer sportfishing for Salmon and Lake Trout. There are restored railroad depots located in Harrisville and Lincoln. The Sturgeon Point Lighthouse includes a maritime museum and gift shop. Camping is available at Harrisville State Park, Alcona Park and several National Forest Campgrounds. Hiking and cross-country ski trails are available in Negwegon State Park, and the Reid Lake and Hoist Lake Foot Travel areas. Trailheads for the snowmobile trails are located in Glennie and Barton City.
